The music world is abuzz with news from the electronic music duo Disclosure, who have just revealed their forthcoming album, ‘Alchemy’, set for release this Friday, July 14.
This 11-song collection, set to be released via Apollo Records and AWAL Recordings, marks a return to their roots for the brotherly pair. The album stands out for its absence of guest appearances or samples, with all tracks springing from the original production work of Guy and Howard Lawrence.
The brothers crafted this album from vastly different personal spaces: Guy, recently wed, was settling into life in Los Angeles, while Howard found himself weathered by emotional turmoil and an exhausting tour of 150 dates.
Discussing the album and its significance, Howard shared:
“There was this combination of deep heartbreak and sadness, but also deep admiration and appreciation. Let’s turn this horrible feeling into something beautiful. The whole idea was to channel pain into beauty – which, in hindsight, is always the aim.”
His brother Guy illuminated the personal nature of this new record, noting:
“All our other albums were written in third person. Before now, very few of our songs were about things that happened to us and our lives.”
The album also showcases more of Howard’s own vocals and lyrics than ever before, adding a unique personal touch to the music which spans a diverse range of influences from sunny house music to fast-paced jungle.
According to Guy, the album reflects their current state of artistic freedom.
“This record is a celebration of us feeling liberated right now. We’re no longer signed to a major record label. We’re not going to tour this record. We can do whatever we like and be super creative.”Guy Lawrence – Disclosure
The album cover, a hand-crafted creation by textile artist Llinos Owen and based on a photograph by George Muncey, includes the brothers in their artwork for the first time since their debut album ‘Settle’, which celebrates its 10-year anniversary with a special edition vinyl release next month.
Disclosure plans to commemorate the album’s release with a complimentary party in London on July 13, the day before the release, although the venue remains undisclosed at this time. An album launch event is also set to take place at The Cause, a venue in East London, on the day of the album’s release.
